I didn't know why I did this, but hey, it's better than doing my moral homework. =) What you see below are the transcripts from audio logs made by one the nine scientists. There's more to come. =) Dr. Rachel Lancaster PhD., M.D., etc. She's the senior supervisor of the project, second in charge after Dr. Alexander Cordell.
BREAKING NEW GROUND. This article only serves as a reference and hence, it is subject to change and it may or may not be used in future story elements.
This is the voice audio log of Dr. Rachel Lancaster, dated February 14th, 2010, 2104 hours.
He’s here! And he’s amazing! It’s unbelievable! Truly ground-breaking! I’m in the temporary maternity ward, looking at him now. I still don’t believe it... We’ve done it... We’ve successfully engineered the first viable cross-human... Lot 1137 is a success! He’s living – breathing the air and everything. I can see his little chest rise and fall with every breath he takes, as he sleeps in the cot before me.
Of course, further tests are to be conducted to ensure that 1137 is stable. The team has decided to call him ‘Valentine’ after the occasion on the day of which he was born. I know, it’s a little early to get our hopes up. After all, we do have one-thousand-one-hundred-and-thirty-six failures under our belts... Still, I have to admit the feedback looks good. Molecular bonds appear to hold at this time. Further research has been approved and will commence first thing tomorrow. Young Valentine here will be under close observation for the next few weeks under the care of Dr. Simone.
Now, documentation: Subject has more or less similar weight and mass as that of a regular, newborn human baby. Upper body is almost bare, with the slight presence of feathers, while the bottom half resembles that of a mammal. Head is cone-shaped, with a pointed protrusion on the facial area. The pointed extremity appears to be a bird beak of some sort. What appears to be yellow fur covers the body from the waist down. The feet also appear to have paw pads. Lastly, subject has a tail that appears proportionate to its body mass.
1137 bares a strong likeness to the legendary gryphon – half lion and half eagle; the DNA seems to have spliced in harmony. I know it sounds bizarre, but everything looks alright: all natural.
When I first came here, I thought Benton was mad! Now, I think I’m starting to see some sense in some of his ideologies. It makes sense – I think... Well, Science is about improving the quality of human life and we’re doing just that here. Valentine, you’re just the beginning. You’re going to change the face of science forever. Sleep well, kiddo, you’ve got some big days ahead of you. End of audio log.
